Tristen Pritchard has been a practicing Hypnotherapist since graduating from the Australian College of Hypnotherapy in 2016. He is not only a fully registered long standing member of the Australian Association of Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy, he was voted onto the committee in 2023. In 2020, Tristen returned to his home town of Christchurch, where he now permanently resides and practices. Before leaving Australia, Tristen studied Applied Psychotherapy and was awarded High Distinction upon graduation. Tristen has also completed hundreds of additional hours of professional education within such topics as trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD and much more. At the core, Tristen believes that therapy should not be hard work but rather a positive journey of empowerment, freedom and creative exploration of the self and environment.

Hypnotherapy is an energy raising experience. It is used by some of the most celebrated Psychologists in the world as their main approach. There is much science and many studies to support its efficacy. Through deep and enjoyable relaxation, we are then in the perfect conditions to create changes. Change always happens by reestablishing a deeper connection with ourselves. We bypass confusion created by the challenges we experience. We go passed how our challenges are making us feel and communicate what it is that we truly want. Then we start to introduce the feeling of what change would really be like; we experience how things could be, and that sends powerful signals through us. The body and mind begin to experience that as reality and begins to make adjustments. Naturally, it is always going to be different for everyone, due to background, cultures and even beliefs. With Hypnotherapy, we are largely going to a deeper place, accessing your power, bringing that out and connecting with your wise self and unconscious mind.

All initial phone consults -or in person if you wish- are free of charge. This gives you the chance to ask any questions you like and to see if I'm the right fit for you. And it gives me the honour of hearing your story and understanding your goals. Session one often involves a little more talking and information gathering. This helps me ensure that your experience is uniquely crafted. All therapeutic approaches have the best chance of working when the approach taken is of great meaning and connection to the individual. Sessions usually run for an hour, but I always leave ample time between appointments in case things take longer, and you're never charged extra for that. Each session is what I like to call a creative journey (because no therapy should feel like "work"). Everyone has a great power in them, regardless of how hopeless things may feel or seem. We tap into that to clear and resolve what is holding us back. The mind and body are always trying to heal. When we shift what is blocking that, positive changes tend to happen rapidly. So, each session is designed to build upon the last through a series of creative, liberating and deeply relaxing techniques and exercises that speak directly to our unconscious mind, sending it clear signals to manifest change. EVERYTHING I do is backed up by science and always evidence based. After each session, you get an email from me outlining the key points from the session and a focus pack to experiment with to help strengthen what we did in the session.

Anxiety & Stress

Anxiety & Stress are natural and important biological functions. Essentially, they are little alarms designed to let us know that we are either not safe, under threat or that something is out of balance. When anxiety goes off, or even produces a panic attack and there is no real threat around, the alarm is simply malfunctioning. The brain is being tricked into thinking that something in your current environment is the same as a previously threatening experience, and therefore triggers the undesired response. Hypnotherapy brings the body back into balance. We let the mind know that the previous upsetting experience was an isolated one, and unique. We isolate the experience so that the brain stops likening it to other things in your normal, everyday environment. Usually, anxiety and panic attacks are easy to resolve. Bringing down stress is a little more complex, but no more complicated to treat; it just tends to have multiple sources: Lifestyle, unbalanced energy, patterns and behaviors we absorbed when we were young. With hypnotherapy, we examine all of the above: updating our behaviors, creating new patterns and making lifestyle adjustments outside of the sessions. Bringing down stress is a regaining of personal power, but also personal discovery; we begin to learn that the behaviors we often display are learned, and not our true selves. Finding and utilizing our desired behaviors is a truly empowering experience, and it usually comes quite naturally as we are becoming our true selves. Put simply, Trauma and PTSD are types of wounds that need healing. There is nothing complex about either. Anything that happened in the past that is still hurting us and affecting our daily lives is in control of our behavior and responses. The traumatized parts of us are a very positive and well-intentioned; they are simply over-worked...they are working over time to keep us safe and protected. So they will do everything possible to keep us from being hurt in the same or similar ways again. This of course negatively affects our way of life: we avoid people and places, become stressed & anxious in certain environments and alter our plans to steer clear of things. Trauma and PTSD treatment is a righteous one. Healing the wounds and dissolving emotional muscle memory through empowering hypnotherapeutic techniques is the path to freedom. Remember this: You didn't ask to be wounded nor deserved it. And especially that whatever hurt you has NO right to continue doing so. Healing from trauma is about freedom and taking back your power! No one is born naturally depressed or with depression. Depression is one of the most misunderstood problems in health and well being today. You were not born with a chemical imbalance in your brain; that has never been proven -ever. Depression is being on the low end of the mood scale for too long. That's it. Everyone has a mood scale and we move up and down it. A healthy person who is getting their needs met will generally hover above the average line. The longer you're down the low end of the mood scale, the more impossible everything seems. How I work with depression is, we start to tell the body to create different emotions again. Again, always trying to heal, it will, if we tell it to in the right way. Crucially, we look at how you interact with your environment. We all have the same emotional needs. How we fulfill them and which ones have higher value is unique to each of us. But if you're getting your emotional needs met, then generally speaking, you biologically cannot be depressed. Getting our needs met in today's world is becoming increasingly more challenging. All the more reason to dedicate our lives to achieving it. Because at the end of the day, why are we here?
